It's prime time and you probably aren't paying enough. For those hours, 3 pm to 7 pm, $50/hr.

I have an au pair for this because I know it’s hard to find part time care. It’s our single biggest expense as a family because keeping those girls happy is a full time job.

Most people work 9-5.
Most people need to work full time to afford to live in this area.
There's a plethora of full time jobs available.
They'd rather pick up extra hours for their main nanny family because it would be at overtime rate.
You need to pay at least $35hr and provide a car for sitter's use with the kids. Still, expect high turnover likely at least each semester with college kids.

I had the same issue when looking for someone reliable. My best tip is to ask around in local community groups or even check with the school if they know someone.

Because you are not paying enough
Pay $30/hr so it's worth their time.

It's hard to find because most people can't afford to live off of a part time salary. You mentioned picking up your child--so you also expect this person to own/maintain/insure a vehicle with this part time salary?

Sure, there are a few that only need part time hours, but there are far more parents needing those part time afternoon hours than there are people that can work them, so parents have a lot of competition.

It's hard because you don't give exact time, approximate location, and pay.
I would jump for the chance, be it low pay, but I keep scrolling, because I don't want to go back and forth about location.

We got ours through our pool. She was a lifeguard over the summer. When she went to college one of her friends, also a lifeguard took over. She’s now at community college so was able to stay with us.
Do you have a Facebook neighborhood group? Listserv?
Once you find someone offer to pay really well. Don’t nickel and dime if you let them leave early etc.

Try posting on the nanny Facebook pages or the next door app. And maybe try upping the rate if it’s only a few hrs

What hours and days do you need? What rate and benefits are you offering?
