We have regular security cameras at doors which capture everyone that goes through them (mostly exterior, though we had an interior to capture the back door and area near it.). Those also capture the nanny. We never look unless there is something we are worried about or wondering about, to confirm or deny a concern about something about someone --- not necessarily nanny: could be housekeeper, kids, others.

Nope Nope Nope leave those cams up. I'm a nanny and I have nothing to hide so watch me all day I don't care. Nannies you guys have to understand how this protects you as well. Relax and carry on with your day. In corporate offices there are cams everywhere, Walmart, grocery stores etc. What's the difference when working in a private residence? Please be for real.

I recommend my families use cameras. I don’t want to know where they are or how they record. I do want to be able to say: “The twins ran through the living room and bonked heads at about 10.27 this morning. Both cried, but nobody was really hurt, and I checked several times for bruising as well as signs of concussion.”

Depending on location nanny cams may be illegal. For example, Maryland is a two party consent state, which means you need both the recorder and the recordee to consent to being recorded. A nanny cam that the nanny does not know about would not be legal in that situation.

I am a Nanny & while I understand how many (especially first-time!) parents can be cautious - I really hate being watched all the time.

And this has absolutely NOTHING at all to do w/a desire to neglect or abuse a child in my care.

I just feel very uncomfortable being watched > most especially if I am also being recorded.
I just can’t be my natural self this way.

Maybe I am in the minority or am just a weirdo, but I simply cannot work w/a camera lense on me the entire time.
I can work w/parents who telecommute no issue but not w/cameras.

When I mention this to prospective families they automatically get suspicious and/or offended but it is the way that I feel & I feel it is best to be upfront + honest at the start.

Nobody wants to work with a nanny cam paying on them. On the other hand, nanny cams have caught nannies abusing kids in some pretty awful ways, that will traumatize a child for life. So you need to balance the nanny’s feelings with the risk of actually messing up your kid for life.

I don’t mind cameras as long as I am aware. But checking occasionally is fine but some do it to micromanage and at that point just stay home with your kid.

This isn’t about love but trust; some parents have a hard time trusting caregivers and rightfully so. However, a nanny must feel awkward at times and parents need to disclose the use of cameras around the house so nanny is fully aware. Ugh it’d bother me tho

All kids want is to play be with a nanny who is loving and patient, who wants to play with them, and it will show! Any nanny that ignores kids or doesn’t play with them, will show too , and I’m pretty sure those kids will tell parents “we don’t like her”

At what point do the parents determine that they can trust the nanny and stop using them? As a nanny I hate the idea of being watched all day.

How do you use your nanny cameras? In the beginning and after a few months? Do you check them regularly? Do you record often? Do you record with motion sensors? Do you tell your nanny of all the nanny cams and where they’re located? Ty
