You're jumping to a lot of conclusions. No parent laughs about not having childcare. Eventually they will get it, or they won't have jobs. Not everyone WFH everyday anymore.

No eventually they’ll find a doormat willing to take the job. They don’t care if they cycle through people. They have a budget don’t care and won’t spend a dollar more even though they can afford to. After OP gave them a drawn out speech did they say she was right we can offer xyz? No they played dumb simply didn’t hire her and continued to still look for their doormat.

I didn’t give them a drawn out speech. I told them I accepted a job that will guarantee my hours right away and that’s better for me. I also told them I would need to be paid a premium rate since I am using my own car and the hours are very little. They can do what they want with the information. Most parents wants the best for their kids. If they wfh they could have a revolving door but that’s not the case and they did get back to me and said my higher rate was okay. It’s very hard to find very PT care so I don’t think they will have a lot of people to choose from. I’m sure their 300k household income is okay paying extra to have consistent care so they can stay at work as late as they need to. Eventually they will get it but how long is takes them who knows. Not my problem anymore.

Even worse they expect someone to wait 2 weeks for their vacation and not pay the person and expect them to come back!

That’s not accurate. It’s not occasional if it’s required every week. After a few weeks they will guarantee 3 hours because school will start and grandparent will leave. I don’t live close (15 mins) and I’m not leaving my house to make $25. I still need to be driving for at least 45 mins total because it’s 30 mins to and from my house and another 15 to soccer from their house. I’m not sure if they will even pay $25 because she had to check with her husband so that tells me they were thinking $15 may be worth someone’s time . They are in for a rude awakening. Mom is going back to work FT and husband is clueless about guaranteeing peoples time and hourly pay. I am definitely moving on because this family is inconsiderate. They spoke about how they have a cook and are remodeling their house, 2 week vacation. They clearly don’t value peoples time if they can’t guarantee hours to hold me for fall of at least offer a flat rate. I told them I needed a premium rate since I’m using my car to drive the kids and it’s not a lot of hours. I think it’s better to find a job perhaps working more hours but they will be guaranteed as soon as I begin.

Op here ah mistyped . It’s 15 mins for me to drive to them then 15 mins to drop at soccer and 30 mins for me to drive home and it’s all during rush hour but they claim there’s no traffic and I find that very hard to believe.

The job ad was for an after school babysitter for 3 hour a week. During the interview they mentioned grandma would stay with them for a month and then they have a 2 week vacation. Grandma can’t drive kids to soccer so they only need drop off for 3 weeks and then 2 weeks of vacation after that. Once they are back they can guarantee the 3 hours. Who is their right mind would drive 15 mins away use their car to pick up kids which is another 15 in a different direction and them drive back home for what $20-25 per hour. I told them it wasn’t going to be worth it and they asked for my hourly rate. I explained I needed to be paid a premium as I am
using my own car and it prevents me from taking other jobs. They still don’t get it. How can people be this dumb?
