So a nanny of ten years should get 11 weeks? That is way above what a corporate severance would be.

I am a nanny and I never expect anything, that way I am not disappointed if I only get a small recognition gift or nothing at all, and appreciative of larger gifts or money gifts. You had a gift every year (yearly bonus) and you were very lucky to have that (not all nannies do), and parents are not "money machines". I think a nice token is appropriate but I would not expect money at the end of a relationship.

I’ve been with a family for 5 years and am no longer needed. Pay was off the books. While, we did have a contract, there was nothing in it regarding severance pay. They gave me a yearly bonus of 1 weeks pay every year during my time with them.
It’s been 2 weeks now and I’ve received nothing. I’ve been extremely hurt and quite frankly, insulted. Should I say something? If so, what?

Severance not needed as long as you gave notice.
A parting gift would be nice though.
I got nothing after 7 years with the same family. I chose to leave and gave 3 months notice.

What does your contract say about severance? Do you need to cash her out on paid days off or sick days?

Hi we are first time parents and our current nanny who was wonderful leaves us tomorrow after being with us for almost 3 years, our daughter is going to full day camp. Do we give her a severance even though she is moving onto another family right away?
