I called out sick yesterday and my MB just texted asking if I can work a full day on Friday to make up for it. We don't have a contract (I know, I know) but we did discuss paid sick time being paid when I was hired. I want to let her know that I'm available to work Friday, but not to "make up" for my sick day. I know she is just trying to save money, but it really doesn't sit right with me. How would you word this?

I didn't realize the expectation was that I would have to make up my sick days. I had assumed when we discussed paid time off, those were my days to use as needed. Can we talk about this further so we are on the same page moving forward? I think this would be a great chance to get a work agreement in place to avoid any other misunderstandings or miscommunications. Thank you!
I would send exactly this.
Me too!
This is perfect.
If you were told that you would be receiving paid sick days, then you should get them.
Period.
Your employer has no right to renege on what she told you from the get-go.
Also I would get that (as well as other things!) in a written contract signed by both of you.
Yes - it does sound like your boss is trying to save $$.
She sounds cheap to me & I would not want to work w/someone who would go back on her word even if it was only verbal.
