the Department of State proposes to “grandfather” au pairs (and their host families) on exchange programs that began prior to the final rule's effective date, (

i.e.,

180 days from publication of the final rule). Such exchange programs will not be subject to the new rules for the duration of the initial one-year program, or for up to one year if the au pair is currently on an extension

Interesting. Sadly, I think the program is coming to an end. I am glad we are on our last AP and will be done hosting after that. The program worked well for us, but there are bad actors on both sides.

The comment period on the new proposed State Dept rules only ended in Jan. State has not published any decisions and realistically, nobody expects any new rules to take effect before Jan 2025. That PP is just stirring the pot.

They need you to match quickly so that the grandfathered six months of the new state department rules fall squarely within your host family contract.
