I think OP referred to herself as Mom. Not grandmother.

Your kids are older and if you don't need care for the baby in the evenings, you would want to look into hiring a college student with 3-5 years of experience.

They love working part time around their school schedule, and their rate is around $25 for part time. They can easily help with homework, and practice sports which is a bonus for older kids.

If you need 40 hours I assume half the time only the baby is at home while the older ones are at school. You can get a different student part time just for the baby in the mornings.

This way in the mornings you can study and in the evenings have an extra set of hands, without anyone burning out.

$35/hr for full time is very good!
Specially the older kids are mostly in school or at home just doing their own things and don’t need much. Unless they are totally unable to help themselves and rely every little thing to the nanny. I’m a nanny of 3 (8,5 and 2 years old). I only end up taking care of 1. This is strictly child care, no house work included (unless I’m bored and start helping out a bit).

Four kids. If I were a nanny. I would charge $60/hr.

Look, you know she is going to end up watching 4 kids. So many scenarios. You need to pay $35 an hour *cash*, with no NO housekeeping. None. If children's' laundry is in the equation, it's $40. Cash.

Nannies do not want a lot of time off. They want money. The only time they want time off is when they go to their home country for about a month once a year.

I get $35 hourly just to watch 1 baby! I'd say start your nanny at $38 plus all benefits.

Wow to read all this answers make me feel under pay, I am a nanny with 17 years of experience I am 36 now and work more then 55 hours a week and when I read what other families pay to other nannies I feel bad I WILL post again and search for a new family
by the way, the family I work is millionary and I do not understand why they are like that to me
I care for the child cook homemade food do laundry for the entire family take the trash, and keep areas clean[ company clean once a week]

I have 4 similarly-aged kids and pay our wonderful nanny $37/hr plus benefits (health insurance, generous PTO, etc) for 8-4 job. From talking with several agencies, it seems like the going rate in this area is $35-40/hr for a “normal hours” job with some kids in school. If you require evening hours you’d need to pay $45+.

You need to pay as if all kids are home even though the older 2 are in school FT.
It’s not clear if you are home with the baby part time or your mom but either way most Nanny’s won’t like that set up. I would be very clear on the schedule and which kids she will be responsible for and when.
I think you could do $35 an hour for 40 hours a week. Most weeks it’s primarily 2 kids.
Try and offer good perks like vacation time, let her off early ( paid) sometimes if you can, paid time off goes a long way.
