I didn't say we gave her nothing. I said nice parting gifts. One of which was helping her establish (and funding with several thousand dollars) a retirement plan. Just because I didn't brag about the money doesn't mean we weren't generous.

So you can stick it pp. We had a wonderful relationship w/ this woman for many years, and that relationship will evolve and continue.

Ok Whatever makes you sleep better at night

Cash is always nice. Especially an unexpected amount. That said, hugs to you all. It's definitely more that a work relationship if done right.
Remember her on holidays, birthdays etc.

PP, why would nannies want cash if the job is over? Speak for yourself.

She'll be doing a few hours a week with us for a couple of months to ease the transition (for everyone!)

We gave her some nice parting gifts. (She didn't do anything to acknowledge or close things out, which seemed a little odd. But also, she was emotional so maybe that was her way of downplaying the transition.)

So because you have plenty of notice You basically gave her nothing! Nannies don’t want your “parting gifts” they want cash!!! Please don’t be surprised if she doesn’t do a few hours a week or comes back to babysit

After my job of 14 years ended, I made sure to go back and visit the kids when I’m in town. It’s a big transition for the kids.

How did you handle it OP? What kinds of gifts or acknowledgments?

After having had nannies for almost 12 years, today is our last day. I've closed out our payroll account, set up a cleaning service, negotiated the upcoming new realities w spouse and kids, and purchased the thank you gifts. It's the end of an era for us.

While there's a ton of snark here, I've also gotten tons of useful info and sometimes some wonderful support. So thanks to all who may have been a part of that!
