If they need you for sick days/ vacation days, they need to pay you for those hours, even if they don’t need you. Kids are sick a lot and schools close a lot…. If I could afford a nanny and had a nice career, I’d rather spend the money on keeping a full time nanny, give her errands to do, but at least I have peace of mind that there’s always “a stranger that loves my kids” for them there and I can continue my career. I wouldn’t have to worry about morning drop offs, afternoon pick ups and sick days?!?!?! That’s like 3 Nannie’s lol. Maybe you can explain it to them like that and who knows, some families might be willing to pay, especially if you offer them other housekeeping jobs, food shopping, running errands, buying gifts and stuff
Me again I just re read your post. You have to ask them what happens if kids get sick? Are the parents willing to stay at home with them? Or will they need you?
If they want you to be available (“on call”), you have to make it clear they need to pay your still full time! Think about it, you find another job to fill in while the kids are in school
She’ll call you at 6 am
Kid A is sick, I need you all
Day today…. What will you tell
Your new morning job???sorry gotta go?!?!?! You can’t do that to the other family
