Yikes. Yes, I'd pay for the additional hour. And I'd prepare for her to find something else also - hope that doesn't happen.

Nightmare commute though - that's tough.

I’d def offer gas money or extra pay , or let her off early. Especially since she didn’t have to continue the job with a longer commute

I'd offer to pay that extra hour per day.

A nanny just told me the other day how this happened to her as well and the family didn’t offer anything and that she wanted to talk to them about it. Honestly, I think it’s great that you’re willing to compensate her for the longer commute, otherwise she’ll get resentful. Wish more MBs would think like that….

2 hours a day is a lot for a Nanny salary, is she driving to you? Assuming she is I think extra gas money would be nice. I wouldn’t pay an hourly rate though, hypothetically suppose she moved closer, you won’t dock her pay again. If you can swing it maybe let her off early every other week? I used to appreciate this so much as a Nanny.

We are moving from Washington DC to the suburbs of MD, Bethesda!
Our nanny is also moving with us, will continue with us.
As a result her commute will increase from 30 minutes each way to about an hour which is an extra hour of commute each day.
How do we address this issue?
Do we pay for an extra hour each day, give more gas allowance?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
