I found our nanny on Care. She's wonderful and I liked that everyone on Care has to go through some level of background check, but I wasn't impressed with the quality of the other candidates there. The runner ups were nannies I found through Facebook parent/babysitter groups. If I were to hire another nanny, I would try to find her through parent recommendations on list serves or Facebook groups. No matter how you search, make sure you talk to the nanny's references after the interview.

I know you said you do not know of any parents w/young children or do not want to pay an agency fee OP but in all honesty these are the top two best choices in securing a Nanny for your family.

Could you possibly ask other parents at the playground or child’s class for suggestions?

Because I wouldn’t trust going online as anyone can set up a profile on a childcare website and label themselves professional Nannie’s.

Good luck!

neighborhood listserv is the best source for nannies.

I know a contract nanny available Sept-mid December. Please let me know if interested and I will post her info.

We found a great nanny through care.com. But word of mouth was, by far, the best resource. Put something up on your neighborhood listserv. Ask nearby friends to post something on their listserv.

That's how you find people w/ references you can really vet.

Nanny agencies like Nanny Poppinz and Adventure Nannies. Don’t waste your time with White House.

I'd look at this forum, as well as neighborhood listservs. Do you visit playgrounds? I'd talk to other parents and nannies there, too.

+1

If you aren't on a local parenting listserve yet, post your neighborhood in the main forum and someone will point you in the right direction.

It depends if you want to do the legwork of finding candidates, interviews, references, background and driving check on our own or use an agency. If agency then you have a couple calls or look at google reviews to pick one. If you want to do it yourself you start scouring all of the other options (care.com, forums, Facebook) for candidates.

I mean those are your options:

-Nanny agency
-Word of mouth
-This forum
-Care or SitterCity
