I am a Nanny & do not expect anything fancy for my birthday.
Cupcakes and a day off sound lovely to me.
Especially if I was only employed w/a family for only six mos, I really would not expect too much.

no one wants scarf, earrings, or bath or body care set. So ridiculous. When I used to work in daycare center, parents thought that during teacher appreciation week all the teachers needed to be gifted those cheap walmart bath&body sets that were disgusting, vanilla smell or some such mostly. We all used to throw them away secretly, sorry parents!

Sounds perfectly lovely. (However, I say this as a 40 year old who is over the consumer BS and appreciates time and heartfelt acts over goods. If she’s quite young, she may still want something tangible like a candle, earrings, scarf, etc.)

As a nanny myself I'd love the extra day off. Wouldn't want the cupcakes (just don't like them).
You should add something else, like a bath and body little set or something else $20-30 if you can. It's weird not to give anything to open actually but it doesn't have to be expensive

I guess I just need a little encouragement. I am MB. I have been laid off and am working on getting another thing lined up. We are able to keep nanny employed through this time, so that we don't have to deal with lining up childcare once I am employed again. But, because of the lay-off, we are super pinching pennies and limited other expenses.
Nanny's birthday is coming up. She has been with us for 6 months. I thought that cupcakes made by the girls and Friday off (her birthday is Thursday, so she could have a nice night and not have to wake up early the next day and that would make it a long weekend). We have not told her about the lay off since it does not impact her job with us, but does cards from the girls, cupcakes, and an additional day off seem like enough? Does it seem cheap to not have a material gift?
