This works until you need preschool drop off and pick up or activities are too far/inconvenient for walking and mass transit.

Pp who does not want nanny to drive here. Indirectly, my post means that a pro driver and nanny combination is rare, and probably op is right and driver should be paid more, and that nanny driving kids regularly is not a "standard"

so why did you respond?

I do not want my nanny to drive my kids as a matter of fact, not because I doubt her driving abilities but I am just not comfortable with other people driving my toddler around, and anyway the playground is within walking distance. If you are not providing a car to drive the kiddos around then you have to reimbursed the miles. I personally never have to use my own vehicle as my employers WFH let me use their cars. I’d not want to put wear and tear in my own car and having car seats placed 24/7 in the backseat takes the whole space .

Almost every nanny drives kids around- it's incredibly standard and does not warrant an higher hourly rate. However, if nanny is using their personal vehicle for work, they must be reimbursed for all miles driven at the federal reimbursement rate and I'd highly recommend gifting them a car detail quarterly. My poor personal vehicles went from super clean to having car seats, snack crumbs, shoe prints, snot, etc until I began requiring families to provide a car.

Just advertise that you need a Nanny that drives. Most nanny’s would prefer to use your car because of car seats/wear and tear.

Grateful for the helpful advice on these forums. We are preparing to search for a nanny who can watch our infant full time but also pick our toddler up from school and watch both kids for the final hours in the day. We can provide a car if that’s preferable to the nanny. (I assume some people prefer to drive their own cars?) 1) Should I expect to pay extra in an hourly rate for this skill? Thoughts on how much? 2) How rare is it to find a nanny willing to drive kiddos around? Am based in DC, slightly north of downtown. Just trying to get my expectations in line as I head into this search. Thanks for any input!
