I wish I was! Sadly, we’re now out in the ‘burbs, close—but certainly not walkable—to the red line.

I so often see parents seeking a “driving nanny” for their elementary school children that I feel like that there must be demand for the other side of the PT equation, too.

I think you have two ways to proceed.

First, you could cast a wide net by not focusing on the pay/benefits, but instead see who is out there. Scour care dot com, neighborhood list serve, Facebook babysitting groups. Find the right person, and then figure out what makes sense for him/her in terms of comp.

If you don’t want to do that, but want to be competitive, I’d say offer $25/hr+. For that amount, I’d expect someone with 3+ years experience who is professional, dependable and brings engagement/enrichment. But you are still going to have to wade through applicants because the more you offer, the more people will apply - even if they have no experience with kids and can’t hold a job to save their life.

OP, do not listen to PP. $28-30 is a full time rate for 1 infant in this area. If you only offer 20 hrs a week, offer at least $650 weekly and see if you get good candidates.

$28-30hr, two weeks worth of vacation, one weeks worth of sick time (so if its 20 hours per week then offer 40 hours vacation time and 20 hours sick time).

I'd work with an agency.

This is exactly the set-up I am imagining. What rate and benefits do I need to offer in the DC area in addition to a 2:00 end time?

I have a toddler (who will be turning three and attending morning preschool this fall) and am expecting Baby #2. I’d like to find a nanny who would work with us in the mornings/early afternoons and then be free, if she so chooses, to get an after-school gig with a family with elementary kids, for example. The nanny would mostly be responsible for the infant, except on days the preschool is closed and toddler is home, as well.

I don’t have a FT nanny budget for someone working PT, but I’d like to be as competitive as possible. How do you recommend I advertise this position? What benefits, hourly rate, and hours should I offer to be attractive?
