2 weeks is fair. If you’ve been with them 4 years though and they’re not expecting this I would try and give a month.

Another nanny here. I would give a month unless there is some kind of emergency.

Do you have a new job?
Do you need your current job as a reference?
Do you like your employer's and don't want to put them in a lurch?

Answer the above questions.

Yes if you don’t have a contract you don’t have to give any notice. My contract says 30 days. My job before was 2wks

If you have no contract, you can give notice that this was your last day. Of course, make sure your last paycheck has cleared.

Don't be surprised when they let you go immediately. Crazy, I know.

Since it has been 4 years and you're talking about children, 4 weeks is MUCH better. Let them know asap. Also, let them know it's a final decision (if it is) in the notice. That way the family knows to focus all efforts on gettin a new nanny.

If you don't have a contract that stipulates more notice, two weeks is standard.

My last contract said 4 weeks. I gave 6 weeks they were still very upset and wanted 6 months. I actually laughed when they said that.

It depends how is written in the contract. Some families and Nannies; do it with the notice of 15 days (2 weeks) while others 30 days. Every situation and agreement when you are hired it's different.

But the most typical thing is 2 weeks of notice. Good luck finding your next position.
