How do you handle these situations? Are they paying you a flat fee, by the hour or how? Are you supposed to get paid for every hour you’re on call, even if they don’t call you in? Get paid more if they do call you in? Let’s say you usually make $20/h
How much should I charge for a Saturday to be on call? They haven’t offered any thing yet

If they want you I. Calm then they lay your regular hourly rate ot OT if over 40 hours. Absolutely ridiculous. If you are on call this means that you are stuck at home and doing nothing.

To answer your question. If you have already worked 40 hours at $20/hr then is on call is $30/hr. Stop allowing cheap people take advantage of you.

I charge 1.5 times my rate for after 6pm or weekends. Half my rate for on -call waiting times. I'm usually home anyways just cleaning, etc on my time off. If I am truly not available (ex. at a wedding, etc.) I just tell them.

Due to my job and a severe illness with DHs mom, we did this with our nanny every 3rd weekend for 4 months. We paid her half her hourly rate to be on call (it was for 5p-11p) with the agreement she'd be there within 30 min. And if she was called in, we would pay double. Definitely on the higher side of things but with the time it felt like we owed more.

Live-in nanny here. I don't do traditional on call. I expect a family to set the hours they might need, and I will be available to work. For some families, that means we negotiate for 24/5 or 24/7.

I’d def do a retainer fee to begin with; then if you’re on call one weekend and never get the call you charge 50% of hourly rate. If you get called in then regular rate. I’ve done it for 2 years, my regular rate was $35 hourly. Retainer $500.

I had a live in friend that did this. They paid her half her rate to be on call and to be within 20
30 mins of their house. If they called her in they paid regular rate. You’d have to agree to a time/distance when being on call.

What is the situation? Decline if you have other jobs and tell them why.

Is anybody working on call for their families for the weekends? Even if it’s once in a while?
