You do not want to host a Brazilian aupair. If you aren't part of the 1% and feel like sponsoring her so she can stay and get married after her student visa runs out, just don't do it.

German! You dont want to hang out with a Brazilian AP and she REALLY doesnt want to hang out with you so please don't consider that as a factor.

I have had great luck screening for oldest siblings from small towns. We have had lovely and drama free au pairs from Poland, Hungary and Germany.

We've had a South American (SA) au pair and a German au pair. The SA au pair was lively and engaging but bucketloads of drama and neediness. The German is boring, but in the best way: Totally calm, reliable and drama free. In other words, German.

many of the south americans are looking for a visa and to get hitched to an American, they often aren't here for children

German. Too many Brazilians live in Lalaland. The things they want, and think they deserve, is endless.

You have to live with an aupair too. It's selecting a roomate as well. Some of our most experienced aupairs had traits that made them nearly impossible to live with. This includes the Brazilian au pair who constantly compared our family with the host families of other aupairs on sical media. It was endless entitlement and judgement.

Go with the German aupair, especially if your family is more reserved or rule following in general. Culturally, we found it to be a better match.

I’ve never hosted a Brazilian AP but have heard LOTS of stories of entitlement, drama, difficult, etc. So I’d go with the German, even if she’s less fun to be around. You need reliability, not someone who is going to rematch if you don’t give her a bonus every week.

Maybe, but AP charges seem pretty universally ill behaved. I’m sure yours aren’t there. Your kids are the exception.

both sound terrible for different reasons but, i'd go for the German. They tend to be more responsible and rule oriented vs party minded.

Hit me with your stereotypes. Deciding between the two.

Brazilian has less experience from home, but fun happy, loves kids. Less perfect English. Probably more fun for all of us to be around.

German is more staid and low-energy but way more experience caring for young kids (like mine)...better English, but also very young.
