As a Nanny I’ve always gotten paid if i needed medical without making up hours; its the principal of employer to make sure their caregiver is healthy for performance. Just as employers take numerous’brakes’ for lunch, medical, nail appointments and such the nanny must be compensated if it is just an hour or so.
They are salaried workers, you are hourly. You should make up the hours, use leave or go unpaid.
You are wrong PP. I have always worked for hour; and I never ever been taken even a penny out of my pay; when I have needed a couple of hours for an emergency, dr. Or so. It doesn't matter you work by salary or hour.
And sorry to tell you; but I have also never requiere to make up those hours. Her employer is just Cheap. It's not worth for her, keep working for them. To OP. It's better to start for a new position, if the things are going on that way.

I have never been docked for an hr or two even if I don’t make it up. Especially since I am flexible and come early for my bosses when they need. Some people clock everything and it’s the same bosses who are always late but never value your time like their own. I’d look for another family

These are people so cheap that they are screwed into their pants every morning. MO MOVE ON!
