Sorry to hear that OP. My personal opinion as a Nanny that; even if a family would be offered more more a very high rate $$ I would decline the position; I tell you this for my own experience. It's really true most of the times this happens with foreigners, please don't take me wrong. But I would never ever do it again. This family was a foreign family; I had both parents teleworking. One in one room upstairs, and the other working the 9 hrs in the open space living room and dinning table (very small townhouse) and grandparents living there for 5+ months; they would leave for one month and come back for another 5 months. If was a real nightmare.

Grandma and mom always just a few steps from me; micromanaging and behind my back only few steps of each other the total 9 hrs a day. 3 people in the same open space plus the toddler and they even asking me do housekeeping including their family laundry, trying to treat me like their personal maid. In short, I quit my job 3 weeks later; even when I didn't have my next position line up. It was the best decision ever..

After that big trauma; I swear myself, I would never take another Job with both parents working from home; unless the two have set offices at the house and no way, when relatives are including.

I don't know any professional nanny that would be able to happy work alongside a grandparent everyday. That is an extremely difficult dynamic and unless you are paying exceptionally above the going rate, the market is swamped with regular full time jobs where the nanny can have more autonomy. I would either think about having grandma provide full time care if she's able, getting a part time nanny and having grandma part time, or getting a new full time nanny and saving grandma time for evenings and weekends.

You will continue to have a high turn over rate with your current set up. Imagine if your boss's mom followed you around work all day.

I usually avoid family with multiple generations living together. It’s always too much micromanaging and most times, it’s a foreigners.

OP here,

Nanny was unhappy because my mother is with her all day with two kids under two years old. She basically said we were not a good fit for her.

And you’re surprised? LOL!

Don't blame. It already a challenge for a nanny deal with parents working from home if you do. Plus adding a grandma or both grandparents visiting often or living there the whole day on the nanny's back, micromanaging and breaking up their routine with the nanny. Sorry but this sounds a nightmare.

Why is your mom home all day? Reasons why good nannies are hard to find and keep. People like op and their family drama .
