I always have my nanny use my car. I feel more comfortable with the kids in my car and I think mentally she drives more carefully bc it’s not her own car.

Definitely suggest this to your employer. Seems like the smarter choice to protect both you and them!

That government rate is a complete joke in terms of the damage caused by car seats, mud and food. Nannies are stupid to accept the ridiculous government rate.

Op, why did you offer to drive your own car. Was it your own decision or they asked you to drive to different places like playgrounds etc? If they ask you to use your own car (which obviously they should be reimbursing the gas already, whitout a doubt); it would be nice from them help you sometimes to pay for the car wash; besides the gas. But if one or both parents are working from home, why they are not giving you one of theirs? It doesn't make sense for you, use your car. They are their kids, it would be fair all wear and tear goes to their car and no yours. On the other hand, if you are driving the kids just bcs you want.. well... it's a little late to think that they owe you something. But you can talk to them about it!

But it doesn't and you know this. OP, if they want you to drive, they can provide vehicle. Absolutely, ridiculous to ask a nanny to use her vehicle to cart around their children.

You should have talked about this in your interview, before start your job or start driving your charges. This is why in my case don't feel comfortable offering my personal job work. When they requiere my car to I think twice, or I ask them if they are going to provide the vehicle. Even though families will reimburse the gas, you are using your car with with kids, you know kids are kids. All wear and tear is a lot. Putting shoes on the everywhere with dirty, with mud in raining days, snacks, when they spill water etc. For me it's just a lot. I don't use mine. If the position requiere me to have a car drive their kids or toddlers even they have not started preschool yet; I just skip the potential job. Another thing is when they have pre-school kids already and they need to be driven. I will ask for reimbursement if it was you.

I drive my charges every day to activities, sometimes twice a day!
Should family pay for vehicle insurance? Any clean up?
Should I ask family to provide me with a vehicle or let me use one of the vehicles?
What is the normal thing?
First time driving my charge!
