It is one baby job but the baby does cry a lot and i still walk and rock him to sleep, but on the whole the job is on the easier side so far. 25 an hour, btw, so not too bad.

Just take metro, it'll be easier/faster

Have you tried books on tape? Talking to friends? Taking a foreign language course? College lectures?

I know lots of people who maximize their commute time and they enjoy it.

It will burn you out eventually. Leave now before you get attached to the baby and the baby to you.

I can walk to work. It’s less than a mile. I need to drive now to take my older charge to preschool but working so close is fantastic. I had a job with a terrible 45 minute commute and swore never again.

Our nanny is about 20 minutes total - five minutes walking to mass transit, ten on it, five minutes to our house.

10 min is very, very lucky. I would take lower rate for closer job.

My commute is 10 mins now but I use to commute from Alexandria to Bethesda for a year and was so burnt out. I wouldn’t be able to do it again especially with these gas prices

I wouldn’t ask them to pay for an extra hour, that equates to $125/week. You knew going into it that you would have a commute, you just underestimated how long it would take you. I think you need to either switch the hours so maybe there would be less traffic or find a different job.

Try to focuse in closer locations for you. Sometimes if you like the job or the family your 12 miles commute become like driving more than 1 1/2 hour; if your case is driving 12 minutes. I'm talking about if your maximum to drive it would be 12 miles. For me I never take something more than 10 miles and even counting the traffic it will take me 30 min or a little more. Taking a job so far with the time it get you tired. Good luck.

I’m in LA, so this is normal for me, unfortunately. Current job is 45-50mins in the morning and 20 mins at night, because there’s no traffic. I’ve been doing it for 5 years. I do audiobooks and language learning CD’s.

My commute is about 5 minutes. I wouldn’t be able to handle a long commute, especially if it meant getting home after 7:00. It leaves no time for yourself. I’d look for something closer to home.
