House mom here. It’s an on the job accident. That’s what insurance is for. Does a UPs driver have to pay for damage if he wrecks the company truck? Same thing.

As the mom/employer, I’d want my nanny to tell me what happened, show me the damage and be upfront about it.

I wouldn’t expect her to pay, unless it was a glaring lapse of judgment, like she was on her phone or had an unapproved friend in the car or something. Otherwise I would chalk it up to bad luck and move on.

Also we put our Nannie’s on our insurance plan.

Most nannies simply don’t get paid enough to afford incidentals like this.

Ridiculous
OP, tell them but do not offer to pay unless you were doing something stupid. You weren't and you should not be expected to pay

+1 Employer here. Glad no one was hurt.

I would never expect our nanny to pay for the repair.

You shouldn’t have to pay. You can offer to help

It depends on your contract. Mine reads that anything accidental or due to the other driver's error is not my responsibility. If I cause damage through an error (like running a red light and getting hit or hitting someone else), I'm responsible for the deductible. If I do anything purposefully, I'm fired and sued.

No and no. If an Amazon driver dents the amazon truck doing a delivery they don’t pay. No delivery company makes the employer pay.

No. You should not have to pay. Our nanny got a dent and a scratch on a car we leased for her at my daughter’s school where the parking is a nightmare and we would never expect her to pay.

You could offer to pay the deductible.

Question to the nannies;I drive the family SUV everyday to the kids activities and today I was parking and I scratched the car really bad on the side.
I feel terrible.
Do I have to pay for the repair?
Should I offer to pay for it?Ugh
