Speaking of a cat, the family I worked for once had a very old, sick cat.
I think she was over twenty years old.
She was incontinent and would only make it to the litter box about 5% of the time.

It was weird because their condo was quite large and very clean.
Except for a large (30 x 30) carpeted area behind an old chair.
If you looked behind the chair - you could see dried cat feces covering an entire cornered area.
Shockingly the rest of the home was meticulously organized, sparkling and neat as a pin.
Plus since the feces was dried unto the carpet it did not even stink.

I just avoided that gross area and focused on the cleanliness of the rest of the condo.
Strangely MomBoss claimed she was an organized neatnik and aside from that she was!

Plus the grandma cooks onion all day, imagine the smell and the dirt for eight hours a day. I am waiting for my contract to be over soon.

Where is the dirt coming from if no shoes allowed?

Family has one cat. The kids and I are usually in the kitchen and family room. Most likely they don't sweep and mop too often, plus family room is hard floor not carpet.

The house sounds really disgusting & there is zero excuse not to empty the litter pan or properly scour/disinfect the toilet.

And you being pregnant now - you are in no shape to be in such an unhealthy environment all the time.

Do NOT even go near their cat’s litter box.
Pregnant women are discouraged from changing dirty litter boxes due to toxmoplasis which is very dangerous to an unborn child.

In all honesty > yes, discuss w/your employers if you can watch their child in your own home every day.
You do not have to tell them it is due to their dirty house.
Just say it will just be easier now that you are pregnant.
Since the Mother telecommutes and likes it when you and the baby are out of the house anyway, she likely will agree.

Congrats on your pregnancy OP!

"busy with their careers" will always kill me. When did hygiene become optional?? I have been a nanny for many years and I can promise you that many people do not know how to clean their homes or even maintain a clean environment and I am just talking of the bare minimum yet; they often blame it on their so-called busy careers. I have worked with wealthy families and they are not exempt either. If it isn't for the help their hire many of them are incapable to clean, cook and care for their own children. Their career is just an excuse not to. PRIOR to them, many women did it and still do. Particularly those who come to help them!!!

I worked for a family like this. There was moldy food everywhere- between the couch cushions, under the furniture, etc.

The dad must have had some sort of intestinal issue or not know how to properly sit down on the potty because there were poop flecks all over the toilet bowl, on the seat, and sometimes splattered around the toilet. The poor cleaning lady would audibly gag when she cleaned the bathroom.

I’d care for the baby at your house, OP. I hate weird smells.

I couldn't work in an environment like that like you. I would never feel comfortable. Here just wondering why you still there? Even though If a family would pay me a great wage; I wouldn't stay.

It's low pay and it's a filthy house? What is going on in your schedule that you can't get another job?

I’ve worked for a handful of families who weren’t particulate organized but current NF house is just gross. They have small apartment and the litter box is in the living room and they won’t change it until the entire apartment smells like ammonia and cat poop.

They’ll leave dishes out all weekend. I am not contracted to do their dishes but can’t tolerate a filthy sink/countertop, especially when I need to wash bottles.

They clearly also never truly clean their bathroom. Mildew in the sink and showers. Toilet that hasn’t been scrubbed in months with black buildup and poop stains.

The worst is the smell. Not only can I not pinpoint where the smell is coming from but I can’t pinpoint what the smell is either. The couch and master bed are both very stinky. Baby sleeps in master bedroom so I have to be in their from time to time.

I kind of dealt with it but just found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant and these smells are triggering me. I also don’t want to puke in their nasty toilet. And is the smell of weeks worth of cat poop good for a fetus? I know it’s not good for an infant.

I spend a few days a week at my house as it’s a bit larger with soft carpet and baby has started to crawl. They won’t want to really baby proof and sometimes the mom works in her office and prefers us out of the house.

Debating just watching baby from my house full time. Don’t mind picking her up, dropping off but not sure I can stomach this house anymore.

Yes. I know quitting as an option but this is otherwise a very easy, low pay, decently paying job that works really well with my schedule so I don’t want that to be my go-to.
