It's hard to tell a little cute that he is not allowed to play with a bunch of new sand toy that he usually doesn't see everyday. They get excited and they want to play. Maybe it was just a thing of the nanny and no the parents. When I take my charges to the playground sometimes they want to bring a toy, a little car or a ball or so; but they know that if someone ask to play with it a little bit, It's very nice to share. Same way that other nice parents and nice nannies share their toys with us sometimes. But I have seen myself a couple of nannies acting same way that Op said. Maybe they are not so nice and friendly. Who knows.

At a park? Where everyone else is sharing? Get real. It’s ridiculous when a parent tells little kids they can’t play with sand toys and even more ridiculous when a nanny does it.

What’s strange is you asking about this. She/they didn’t want to share no big deal. MYOB and worry about your charge not keeping track of who’s sharing or not.

Maybe a family took toys of hers last week and so she is being over protective? Maybe the kid isn't good a sharing and she is not interested in a tantrum. Maybe she is the mom and not a nanny and wants her stuff for her? Maybe she is the aunt or cousin and is just helping out?

Yeah - weird. I’ve seen mothers pull that crap but never a nanny. Are you sure she was a nanny?

That is strange behavior from a nanny. I’m guessing the parents told her not to let anyone else play with the toys.

All the nannies and parents at our playground duo out our kids toys and let everyone play with them. On Friday, a new nanny and toddler came into the playground and dumped out a huge bag of sand toys. Of course all the little ones were on those toys like white on rice and the nanny told the other kids no - that the toys were for the baby. She kept saying, “these are baby toys”. So we all backed off and redirected our kids/charges.

Why do you think she did that? Do you think the parents told her not to let anyone else play with his toys? They were just regular sand toys - in fact I dumped out the identical set for my charge. When this nanny’s charge started to play with our toys, of course we let him.
