Interview is not paid. But training for a morning should have been. It’s been corrected now so all is well.

You are wrong. She was clearly not on the average interview. An interview for a nanny is 60 min, maybe 90 minutes at most. If you are there for several hours, then you are doing a trial which also known as a working interview. If it's not a full day, then it's generally 4-5 hours long. These are always paid at whatever rate the nanny would be working at.

It would be a combination of nanny talking with parents, playing with child, seeing the layout of the home and getting the rundown of the daily schedule, perhaps taking a walk outside with child (with or without parents) and then some time at the home with you left with the child while parents are elsewhere in the home. As this is considered work (training), you must legally be paid for your time.

An interview may include a meet and greet, but total time should be less than an hour. After an hour or for a scheduled training after an interview that went well, clarify that you will be paid.

OP here,

I never said I wanted to quit. I was asking on advice if I should ask about the missing unpaid hours? My husband wanted me just to end it and start fresh. I just assumed it was a mistake on the mom.

If you were considering ending it and starting fresh as your husband wanted you to do, then you were considering quitting.

I send a text to MB about the unpaid hours. She was definitely embarrassed and said, she will add it to next week paycheck. I learned a valuable lesson about work interview. Make sure to be open and full disclosure from the beginning. My husband still thinks she was being cheap and I embarrassed her by saying something.

Listen to your husband. You do not make mistakes concerning an employee's pay ever. No excuse for this.

Definitely. The first first interview was by zoom and in person meet and greet was initiated by the mom. I never heard of 3 to 4 hours interview / meet the kids as unpaid hours. I told my husband it wasn't nice of him to judge her on this incident. I do take responsibility for not making it clear from the beginning.

Sounds like the in-person meeting was a trial, like a working interview. That should have been talked about as being paid.

If it was more than an hr then you definitely should be paid. That’s your time.

New nanny here. I just started a new job. This is my second family, I just received my first paycheck. I got paid 20 hours for last week plus 3 days for this week. I noticed the mom did not pay me for the first interview Plus meet the family. I was there from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00. The mom wanted to show me around and train me to her kids daily schedule. I really like the family and I like my schedule, because it goes with my school schedule. My husband thanks I should just give my notice and start fresh because he feels the family is not financially stable or it's a bad beginning. I think it was just an oversight on the mom or she thinks the interview Plus meet and greet the kids was just part of the interview and it's free. What should I do? Please advise
