Hi OP, I run a local nanny agency. We have placed well over 100 nannies throughout the pandemic and have had 2 clients require their nanny to mask. Even prior to the vaccine, most families were considering their nanny part of their household and family "bubble". That's not to say that you couldn't find someone to mask all day, but the logistics of being a nanny make it difficult. I thik any initial push back would be over things like- would she be able to eat at work? Have a morning coffee?


I mask all day at work and drink my morning coffee just fine. Nanny can take her mask off to eat when she is not in direct contact with a child.If wearing a mask is a logistical challenge for a nanny, I can't imagine what else may be hard.


These statements are contradictory…

Either you mask all day OR you mask most of the day and you remove your mask to eat and drink throughout the day. The thing is, if the nanny is unmasking to eat at the kitchen table with your kids, you’re all exposed to each other anyways. You’re in each other’s bubbles. I can see how that would make masking for the remainder of the shift performative.

Yes, understood that many people mask at work. I think those are just the initial questions nannies raise because unlike in other professions, there is no lunch break to go somewhere alone and unmask. I was trying to helpful to OP because if she is OK with nanny taking off her mask to eat and drink throughout the day, she can present that clearly in the job description.

If you present the situation as you did here, you’ll find that many will. The nannies who object are the ones who don’t like being treated as if they’re the only way your child could be infected.

Hmmm that's strange. Tell me wherein? I am a nanny and right now I don't even know any other nanny, who is required being mask inside the house.

My nanny happily masks as do we .

A lot of nannies are masking . Don’t get discouraged by the dumb PP . There are breakthrough infections and you are doing the right thing for your kids
