This is not wise, PP. Your child will have significant delays because of it. If nanny is vaccinated and cautious, even if she contracted break through covid her viral load would be so small so as not to infect your child. Please rethink this decision.

What you just said about viral load in the vaccinated is a complete lie. Try again, with real sources this time. DP.

I don't believe you. Probably you are wearing a mask only when you are passing next to your nanny and in front of her. But I guess when you are working in your set office at your house (if you have one) you take her off and keep working the whole day without a mask. While your nanny will have to be wear her Mask the "whole day" . Kitchen, living room, playroom, backyard, baby room etc. That's really bad. I guess the only time when she can really break and take a break of the mask is "when she is in the bathroom". Poor nanny.

As a nanny myself; I would have prefer told this right in my Interview with you. This it would be a real "deal breaker for me"; even salary, schedule and family are great. I'm a fully vaccinated nanny and very responsible about CDC guidelines. It would not be nice and fair just tell me that You require me to wear a mask inside just in my 1rst day of work. It I were your nanny; I would talk straight to you my first day and tell you that thank you but the position it is not the right fit for me. The interaction with the nanny and the baby is very important in a nanny Job.

No, our nanny has never masked in the house. We know her (she’s intelligent, lives alone, followed all guidelines while working and when off work) and trust her. Even before she was vaccinated she didn’t wear a mask with our toddler and newborn.

As the other PP pointed out, it’s really important for young kids to see faces at home. I don’t know what ill-effects or delays babies/toddlers in daycare are going to have with masked caregivers but there will be some. Older kids is probably fine. But I want my kids to see nanny smile at them!

It’s not in the best interest of your child, OP. A young child needs to see full expressions and word formation. Not to see a smile from a caregiver all day isn’t healthy.

If your nanny is vaccinated and cautious, I wouldn’t let her wear a mask all day.

I would prefer you tell me asap. I wouldn’t politely decline your job and I’d expect you to accept my decision with a smile and best wishes. Why didn’t you tell her before hiring her? Did you wanna secure her and hope she will obey your additional rules you make down the road?

Your house your rule.

But I would let the nanny know ASAP. Actually you should have inform her that mask is mandate during interview. For some people , this maybe a bid deal to them ( such as above poster)

I work in healthcare, wearing mask all day at work is mandatory to protect ourselves and our patients. It’s being responsible especially the delta variant.

If she starts on Monday - I would ask her prior to her start date.
It would be unfair to request this after she starts the position.

Personally I would decline a job where I had to wear a mask all day.
Especially since I am vaccinated.
Sure, I have read all about the Delta variant, etc., but as a personal choice I just couldn’t wear a mask all day long > especially w/the summer heat.

But it is all a matter of choice.
Whatever comfort level exists between you + your new Nanny.
Best to discuss it directly w/each other.

Good luck!
