Apparently you were only interested in the easy part of the deal (cheap labor) and forgot the "part of the family" thing.
Yes going through your mail is too much, you should have told her and that was it.

Screw pp, the privacy issue is real and I can't wait for ours to leave in January to get my house and privacy back as well. It's too much, we will be switching to out of house help assuming this delta variant doesn't put it all to crap

Did you even read the post? It was quite literally a (humorous) post about her DH NOT emptying the dishwasher.

How sad for your Au Pair - what happened to the 'cultural exchange'? Poor girl is away from all of her family and friends...and you treat her like a burden. Yikes. Not a great look for you.

Paper plates and plastic silverware. This will reduce the loading and unloading of the dishwasher. It may also entice your husband to actually help if he hates disposable eating products.

Your kids are definitely old enough to empty the dishwasher twice a day.

I was relieved when our au pair left. We have our space and privacy back. And the kids haven't asked about her in the last 6 months so...

Yes! No unloading/loading the dishwasher and suddenly I realize that I always forget to bring the mail in!

It's so nice having our house back to ourselves. If it's remembering the mail and the dishes, it's fine with us.

With the pandemic and eating 3 meals plus snacks at home every single day for 4 people...we definitely run the dishwasher twice per day.

Op we had the same with the kitchen but I am loving having the house back. No loud music, extra guests at all times, worrying about food preferences. We may end up going back to AP's at some point but for now I am really enjoying the extra freedom.

Oh come on, OP was obviously making a joke.

So if unloading the dishwasher is all you can miss from having an Au Pair it's really sad ...

Why do you have to run the dishwasher twice a day with only 4 people? I have between 6-10 in my house most of the year and run it once unless we have a party or something.

Also, get your husband to do it.

Our last AP left last summer and we decided not to get another (kids are 11 and 13). I love having our space back. What I don't love is unloading the dishwasher EVERY MORNING because my husband seems to believe it magically gets done because it did for so many years. Yes, I've addressed it with him directly. He says "oh, yes, sorry, I'll help and do it half the time!" Does he? No. He's just so used to having it done for him. Just a warning

p.s. My kids unload and reload the dishwasher in the evenings....so he's not EVER doing it!!!
