Nowhere does OP state how old this child is. If the child is 3+, yes, this is ridiculous behavior. If the child is 1-2, this is an adult failure.

Op here.

My son just turned 2.

He’s old enough to draw, watch tv and ride a scooter. Sounds like he is about 3+ years old and is bad

I've had nannies arrive 5 minutes late everyday. Even though it is only 5 minutes, it is maddening when you are trying to get out the door to your own job. I feel you. It's unprofessional on her part.

Sounds like she's checked out and not a good nanny. I would hesitate to cut short her two weeks left, if you can swing it.

1. She's not keeping him safe, and she tried to hide that he was hurt.
2. He destroyed a couch due to her inattention.
3. She's always late. When you tried to work with her, she took the request for a text as a new start time.
4. She's always on her phone and he's getting increasing amounts of screen time.

1 and 2 are safety issues. 3 speaks to reliability. 2 and 4 speak to her interaction with your child. 1 shows deception.

These are all red flags. I don't care if she is supposed to be there another 2 minutes, 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 years. No child should be left with someone like this. Immediate termination, please!

I'd tell your son from now on he gets ten minutes of tv in the morning, and when the timer goes off, the screen goes off regardless of where he is up to in breakfast. Then I'd tell the nanny from now on there is no screen time and you want her off her phone and paying attention to your son, not her phone.

I think we all know that’s not why she did it.

Op here. Then I might just terminate her if she can’t watch my son.

Nanny from above. No one would fault you if you did fire her immediately.

She’s a terrible nanny and not doing the bare minimum which is to keep your child safe.

Ban all phone use while he’s awake and turn off the TV while he’s eating (which is a terrible habit anyway and you shouldn’t let him do it). There are only two weeks left so I hope she sucks it up.

My nanny is almost always 5+ minutes late, and she’s been late everyday this week. It’s always "something": an accident, stuck behind a slow moving car, etc. I’ve asked her to text me if she’s going to be more than 5 minutes late, but I guess she took that as her new start time is 8:05 instead of 8.

My son is allowed to watch cartoons in the morning while eating breakfast. I’ve found screen time has increased exponentially while he’s in her care. I will come out of my home office and she’s sitting on her phone while he’s watching the iPad and breakfast is long over.

Today I was working and heard my son cry quite loudly, which was a different cry like he was hurt. I came over and he had an abrasion on his cheek and a swelling bump near his eye. She said he "fell" on his scooter (we bought him a scooter to try out indoors in the basement). She had my son in the living room, up against a window like she was trying to keep the volume of his cries away from me. I was pissed.

It wouldn’t raise much red flags except I just don’t think she’s watching him. My son got hold of a black crayon and drew ALL OVER the couch yesterday. No explanation as to how he was able to do this without her watching.

The frustrating part is we only have this nanny for another 2 weeks, and I’m seriously doubting keeping her for that time if she doesn’t respect my time nor can keep my son safe. I’m just seriously irritated and feel like she’s not doing the bare minimum.
