Yup, I am looking for a sitter now and one fb group is very suspicious "I am free to babysit from 5 pm fridays to 10 pm sundays. I have au pair experience and have been in the US for a year"

Unless they are citizens they are illegal to work outside of their au pair hours on the J1 visa, and if they stick around on tourist visa or student visa they are also illegal to work as baby sitters.

Former APs can babysit, if they're here legally. There are a number of ways that could happen, chief among them is if they are now married to a US citizen.
