Ours is a four month age gap, started when the kids were 6 months/10 months, and there have been no issues. Oldest is 15 months now.

I will say that just in general with a nanny share, I think each kid having a dedicated sleeping place is key. Trying to get both to sleep in the same room is asking for trouble when they're that little, and to me, erases the primary advantage of a nanny, which is a good, customized sleep schedule rather than the craze of napping at daycare. We host, and the other baby naps in our bedroom (there's a pack n' play and noise machine in there for her) and that seems to work great.

I will add to the discussion that the home hosting matters a lot too. Since outings will be difficult with that age spread, you would fare better if you had a home with a nice dedicated play room. If there is a good space where nanny is allowed to make messes and do sensory projects, etc., then being on different nap schedules could work in your favor to some extent bc each kid gets some one-on-one each day. But if the host home is a small apartment then it will be very difficult.

12 month old and 18 month old would be hard. Younger might be on two naps and older on one nap. Older is VERY active and younger might not be walking or might be cruising and need support. Things would level off when younger is about 2.

Previous poster here. I would disagree. A 10 month old may be mobile (more than likely crawling- some may even begin to pull up on things). A 4 month old is probably taking 3-4 naps, while a 10 month old may be down to 1 or 2 naps. Again, highly suggest speaking with the parents on how they feel about stroller naps- otherwise, it may be difficult getting outdoors- one goes down and the other pops up; there’s also a lot of transitions with these ages.

The 18 month old would be motivating the 12 month old and at least you know the 12 month old will be on a 1-2 nap schedule and the 18 month old on a 1 nap schedule, so it would be easy for nanny to arrange activities; have at least 1 nap at the same time. They will be eating meals together and both curios to learn and explore. I would definitely prefer this age difference then the 2 infants being 6 months apart- if cared for a 13.5 month old and 18 month old and they were practically on the same schedule after a month.

Thanks. My concerns were just whether a six month gap (when you are dealing with, say, a 4 mo and a 10 mo for a few years) created too many difficulties in terms of caring for both/doing activities/feeding/napping. My instinct is that 1-2 months is better as well, but just wanted to see if anyone had BTDT and had any experience.

What are your concerns?
I did it. Anything in particular you're interested in hearing more about?

I'd really appreciate hearing the experiences of those who have done a nanny share with babies that have a 6 month age difference. Thanks!
