No it's not! Parents know way in advance what the future plans . Nanny's need to be interviewed and this process could take weeks just to find the right fit.

2 -3 months should be time for her to start looking. Glad you are looking out for her needs as well. It takes time to find the right fit. My charges will be going to kindergarten in the fall. To me it just made sense to leave a little early. Most times situations like this no one really wins. Very emotional time on both ends if you're really close to the family.

Silly question.

Have both kids been in at least part-day school before. Full day school with before and after care at three is essentially daycare, and your 3yo may have a hard time adjusting. If there’s any way to ease into it (part day first, then full, then extended), I’d suggest going that route.

While it’s not what you asked, it may change your end date.

Our nanny has been with us for several years and she’s great. However, we will have reached a point this coming school year where we won’t need FT care or even PT care as I plan on putting both kids (3 & 5) in private school w/ an extended care option. I was thinking of letting our nanny know now vs. later so if she’d like to find something FT/lands into the perfect opportunity she can do so - even if it means leaving our family earlier. (If that’s the case I can either hire a temp nanny for summer or put the kids in summer camp at their school.) Is five months too much of a notice?
