You called her a nanny and then a babysitter. What is she as there is a world of difference in responsibility.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree w/this advice here.

To phone in sick 1x/week is just completely unacceptable!
I think everyone would have to agree.

Don’t worry about legal issues >>> you have every right to let this irresponsible individual go due to her plethora of sick days.

OP said she calls in sick once a week and is only part time (20 hours). Educated guess here that she has zero sick days left!

Then the next time she calls in she should be let go. I’d start looking to replace her.

You can fire her for not coming to work even if she’s sick. Imagine if she was sick everyday. Do you continue to pay an employee for months that doesn’t show up? No you fire them.

Yeah you need a nanny! Career nannies don’t pull that crap.

You calling her a babysitter was a clear indicator you have hired just that, a babysitter. Not a wise choice if you need a reliable weekly caregiver. This is not her livelihood, she obviously doesn’t rely on the income or care about the job. Let her go and hire a nanny!

Fire the babysitter and hire a nanny!

So fire her for being a crappy babysitter

In your contract do you require that she informs you about any symptoms due to COVID or is she just telling you these on her own?

Who the hell calls out because they're TIRED?! I'd have fired that day. And four strep tests - does that mean the nanny had strep or just a sore throat so they got a strep test?

Honestly, at this point I wouldn't care. Line up someone new and give notice she's being fired for unreliability.

Our babysitter is always sick. At least once a week she calls out sick because of something. She works 20 hours a week.
