Are nannies able to get the vaccine in Virginia now ?

No side effects after my first shot (besides soreness from the injection site). After my second dose I felt so unwell that I ended up using a sick day. On day two I could hardly get myself up to even walk to the bathroom, much less get in my car and drive anywhere. I would have appreciated if my employer offered me the day off (without having to use one of my sick days) but it is what it is! For me the worst of my side effects was between 36-48 hours after the time of vaccination. After 48 hours I was completely fine. I would definitely plan on taking off 2 days if you can, or schedule for a Friday if you have the option. Good luck!!

My nanny took a half day after her shot and then we talked about playing it by ear the next day. She texted first thing that she was fine and came in but we were prepared to have her be out. She got J&J so no second shot.

I’m getting my second dose on a Tuesday morning and plan to work the rest of the day (until 5) but have warned my employers that I may be off on Wednesday and Thursday. I hope I don’t get any side effects, obviously, as my toddler-charge is currently going through some adjustment with a new baby and needs his routine with me.

Absolutely! Our nanny has never once called in sick or has taken more than a few hours off for necessary and preplanned weekday stuff in two years. I’ll give her all the paid time off she needs.

Both Pfizer and Moderna say in their literature not to plan anything for two days after the vaccine, so I may just take the time off. The thought of vomiting or getting feverish while chasing a toddler and holding a newborn doesn’t appeal to me!

I’m going to take a full week’s vacation for the first time in over a year. I’m scheduled for the second vaccine on a Wednesday so I’m taking Saturday to Wednesday to get stuff done (dentist, car serviced - stuff I’ve been putting off) and then Wednesday to Sunday to do nothing but wait for possible side effects in my own home with Netflix!

Yes, I am planning to. I can’t be sick or not-on-my-game with very active toddler twins. Better for my employers to know in advance and I have vacation time as well as PTO.

Anecdotally, it seems that the healthier you are, the greater the side effects of the 2nd dose.
