Well, you know her better than we do. Things to consider:

- monthly gift subscription - food, flowers, candy, wine...
- jewelry - some significant pair of earrings or a necklace
- a pampering spa day or stay
- a beautiful piece of crystal
- if she loves to cook, something extravagant like Le Creuset cookware

But also, a big parting cash thank you. I totally agree w/ you about cash feeling like an easy/thoughtless way out but I also agree w/ all the feedback that it is hugely appreciated.

Anything having to do with the kids-a special picture of her with them or an art project they made, a little book, etc. And yes it would be nice if you gave her some type of money (bonus, severance, what have you) but it sounds like you are very kind and wish to give her something heartfelt and sentimental. Meaning I would do both.

Surgery = medical costs

Money is very thoughtful indeed. The kids can add a card and you can write a very heartful note. Some meals (home made and delivered) while she's recovering would also be nice. But she will inevitably need money, so money is actually a great gift.

Perhaps you could have a meal service delivery meals to her for awhile.

You sound like a very generous + appreciative employer OP!

Yes, cash is always king so along w/a cash gift I would also include something personal from your child.

A homemade card, picture or art project would be lovely.
Does your Nanny like to read?
A gift card to a bookstore would be ideal.

Etc.

Yes to the cash bonus. My favorite gift was a silver photo frame with a great photo of my charge and me and inscribed “thank you for helping me grow”.

A framed photograph of the kids, a big cash bonus, and a standing invitation to visit the kids whenever she can.

Hugs!

Money and some small heart Gifts. I am sure this nanny will really appreciate that. I worked a nanny-share position for 1 year. And when my position finished they didn't have heart to give me at least $5. Neither of 2 family. I really loved those babies. Believe me at least I was expecting a $10. Of a Starbucks to say thank you for my services.

M..O.N.E.Y And a lot of it! It's the perfect fit and color. Do not give her a token gift card or photo of you or your kids.

Our nanny will be leaving next month due to surgery and I want to get her something special as a thank you. I mean I don’t know how I can even thank her though a gift for all that she’s done for us but I’m looking for ideas. I don’t mind giving her cash but also want to come from the heart.
