I was an Au Pair in NYC a few years ago. I am a very kind person. My host family was mean spirited, I wish I could have stayed with a kind host family. I did my best for the children, who were fantastic. But the parents really spoiled my experience and I still have nightmares about them, years after this experience.

I’m an nyc host parent and sorry to hear about your bad experience. Can you elaborate on what they did that was so awful? Why didn’t you rematch or at least talk with the lcc to get help?[/quote]

How do you know she didn't, unless this post is making you feel guilty?

The poster doesn’t say anything about asking for help.

At the end of the day, AP agencies don't favor HFs or APs, they just favor agencies.

That is so awful. How do we make sure we root out the ones that should be rooted out?

Really? That is horrible. I've seen rematch profiles read to the effect of "au pair violated covid rules twice and stayed out all night. she is regretful and really loves kids". Send. them. home.

Must be something going on with OP, but I do see your point. The nicer host families do tend to get screwed the most.

dear flaky au pairs,

please note that when you decide to break your commitments, you end up driving nicer host families because we are done investing so much time, effort, and money into making this a good experience for you and to respect you like a niece.
