Au pair from Mexico arrived legally with J1 Visa, no going around the rules, she is doing exactly what the au pair program tells her which is related but state department. Not just showing up at consulate for some random travel type Visa.

I don't trust au pairs who are getting their visas and going around the rules. Kind of tells you how much they may or may not expect house rules.


So are these 'au pairs' people coming with tourist visas outside the official au pair program?

This isn't true, actually. Also, AP program is not cheap. Also, vast majority of HFs in my cluster have Italian, Hebrew, French, and German-speaking APs - it's a language thing for many. That cannot be replicated with Spanish-speaking nannies.

Part of immigration policy is to let people here illegally and pending their court date apply for work permits. That will pretty much make Au pairs not needed any federal /state workers can legally hire super cheap labor.

We matched with our Mexican au pair on December 20th, she has a visa appointment on January 7th. She is keeping the appointment, and we will see about the EO extension.

We have been looking for APs from South America and are any countries scheduling visa appointments? We heard Colombia and Argentina are scheduling in the summer for APs now....any countries doing better?

We are not emergency exemption or anything, just normal process.
