This post could be called Families Who Did Not Work Out

I was with a family for about 3-4 months before quitting. It just wasn’t a good fit at all. Before hiring me, they had a different nanny for about 1-2 months that ended up leaving (I can’t remember if she quit or they fired her). However, prior to that, they had a nanny for their first child for at least 2 years.

I feel that a revolving door of Nannies can be detrimental to a young child.

While I can understand one or two Nannies not working out, more than that could mean that a family may not be the best employer.

I own a nanny agency and our replacement rate is about 8% of all of our placements. We have a pretty thorough interview and trial process so I would guess that families doing it on their own have a slightly higher replacement rate.

Didn’t you not ask about discipline and philosophy during the interview? There weren’t any open-ended questions like “what would you do in this situation?” or “this is how I would handle this situation. Is that ok with you?”

Of course although we were not able to meet in person until right before I started. Let me just say I don't want to get into details but we just didn't have a fit. I guess it happens.

Nanny here and this year was the first in thirty that I lost a job in one week. And they weren't even bad people just wildly divergent childcare philosophies. I guess sometimes it happens.

There are some moms who are not picky and can stick with one nanny just fine . I know a lot of picky moms that go through a few nanny trials before getting the right one . It’s okay and you should go with your gut . If you think it’s not working for you move on . Also understand though no one is perfect so you have to give a little on things that aren’t as important .

Eh, it's possible. The reality is that a lot of the people hiring a nanny have never once hired someone before and never managed an employee before.

They may think something is implied like "of COURSE everyone locks the door when leaving the house" and the nanny is from an environment where nobody ever locked their doors. So it didn't occur to them to go over that and the nanny can't get into the habit of locking the door.

Is it common that people hire a nanny who doesn't work out and need to go back to the drawing board? I'm assuming that if you're looking for someone long-term to join your family, you want it to be a very strong fit, and sometimes it becomes evident that isn't the case.
