Nanny here. My bosses have always offered it. I wouldn’t work for a family who wouldn’t. But I will not shame someone who doesn’t. I understand I am very fortunate.

The covid vaccine will be free. It makes sense that employers demand that nannies are vaccinated against a whole host of viruses for fear of the nanny passing it on to the child.

Next time, don’t accept a nanny position that doesn’t offer healthcare insurance.

Health insurance should be discussed before you start the position.

I need health insurance so I simply don’t work for families who aren’t willing to offer coverage.

Who are you demanding pay for your health insurance? If its an employer, you need a new job.

I think your time may be better spent advocating for universal health care or advocating that all employers be required to offer their workers health insurance. You are trying to shame people into subsidizing the health insurance of domestic employees by saying “you can’t afford a nanny!” But people who offer jobs that are accepted can actually “afford” a nanny despite you thinking the compensation is lacking. So what’s your goal with this post?

COVID is not the only factor and if you can’t afford to contribute then you shouldn’t have a nanny.

You’re asking me if I’d be willing to get the COVID vaccine but don’t want to contribute to health insurance; do you not understand how vital it is for people to have insurance, especially now?! You don’t want to help then offer a rate that would allow your nanny to afford healthcare.
