Fire her. If she is traveling like this, I am doubtful that she is following appropriate COVID precautions in her off time. I would not want someone who chooses to travel during this pandemic taking care of my children. Yes, many people are traveling. They are selfish and irresponsible, and taking a risk of infecting themselves and others (like you and your family).

Why would you pay her to not work? This is PTO and unpaid time if she runs out of PTO.

Unpaid. And if nanny is comfortable traveling for both holidays, I’d wonder what else she’s comfortable doing when she’s not at work that may be putting your family at risk.

This all should have been discussed beforehand, OP. Yes, she should quarantine after returning and get tested but both vacation and quarantine should be out of HER vacation/pto like any company would do. You should not have agreed to the time off for the second trip, OP.

Our nanny is doing something similar and if she hadn’t been with us so many years, I would terminate her because it is incredibly reckless and puts us all at risk. However, my DD is very attached to her and we don’t want to introduce someone new into our household during the pandemic. So we paid for the first quarantine like you did but she has to cover the next 10 day quarantine and covid test with her PTO and sick leave. If she didn’t have it, she’d have to take it unpaid.

MB...I would definitely start to feel like I was being taken advantage of. I feel like the second quarantine should be unpaid, at the very least...and that’s still a pain for you to have to arrange backup care.
