Good for you. Responsible nannies like you and families like ours need to find each other. We will be letting our nanny go before she leaves on her second vacation trip this year.

+ 1 I wish there were more “careful” families looking for nannies. My employer had family members visit from several states. They also had play dates inside with kids’ friends that were home from boarding school. I take every precaution and don’t see my own family. It’s beyond frustrating to have employers that are so selfish and continually putting me at risk.

Nanny here and good for you! I wouldn’t go back on Monday. You’ll have absolutely no problem finding another job.

You need to call her before she comes back and find out. If she did go, she needs to take the next 14 days off and show you proof of a negative PCR test before she can resume work.

This. Irresponsible to attend any social gatherings and being a covid spreader.

I agree that you should have spoken to your Nanny beforehand if this was very important to you.

Yes, you can always offer to give her some paid days off to make up for it.

I think it is important for everyone to be honest, and you have a right to ask if she (or anyone coming to your home) attended small/large gatherings— even if it was for the holidays. While I think you should’ve had this conversation prior to the holiday, moving forward, maybe discuss a quarantine period if she travels or visits a family member and require a negative COVID test? But if you do speak with her and find out she did attend, how will you feel knowing she did not inform you about being around people outside of her household?

We have been pretty restrictive since covid and our nanny also has been following similar precautions. The one time we visited family outside masked, I let her know so she could chose to still come that week or stay home.

I had asked about her plans for Thanksgiving and she said her sister in law invited them over but that her husband wanted to stay home. I should have had a conversation with her before she left this week about my concern going to a family gathring but I was on a call when she left. My husband had mentioned that she had told him the day before they were invited and that her family gets tested often bc of their jobs.

She was really quite on Tuesday and it makes me think she decided to go to her relatives. I'm debating texting her sayibg she could stay home (paid) if she went to visit family but also dont want to upset her. Would you do something or let it go?
