If it smells terrible, the first suspect is dairy. She's probably embarrassed and unsure of what to do, so be gentle but perhaps see if she may be open to advice.

Things to try
1. Seeing a gastroenterologist
2. Cutting out dairy
3. Drinking more mint tea or taking a mint-based supplement like IBGard (works absolute wonders)
4. Taking shorter term fixes like Gas-X (but this just masks the issue)
5. Increasing or decreasing fiber (low FOBMAP diet https://www.ibsdiets.org/fodmap-diet/fodmap-food-list/)

I was diagnosed in my mid-30s with IBS. I was/am a master farter! Am now late 50s and nothing has worked to ease it. I'll probably blow the lid off my casket when I die! My DH has gone from eye-rolling to outright howling with laughter.

Just ask the nanny if she has consulted a doc for her "issue." Mine don't smell but if hers do it could be a diet issue.

I am an exercise instructor and everyone farts in class. It can get pretty smelly in there! Oh well.

When i do personal training there is no hiding the farts -- there are only 2 of us we know who did it! I ignore it and keep on training the client. They know they do not have to be embarrassed with me as their trainer. Most of my clients have been with me 8+ years.

My husband used to work with a woman who had a medical condition and farted loudly and continuously. He was the only sympathetic person in the office. Everyone else made fun of her. He was only 25 at the time and more understanding than the 40-year olds. I love my hubby so much.

I'm a nanny and I once worked for an employer who worked in a small office space in the home. Every six weeks they had to fumigate that spot it was so bad. This guy was a digestive bean factory. Thank goodness nobody smoked cuz a match would have lit up the place like Vegas. What am I going to say? I even kind of felt bad for him plus I needed the money.

You can limit it - try beano or gas-x

How is she creating issues? It’s gas, everybody gets it.

Fwiw, I have a ton of gas, due to IBS. No, I can’t control it. No, there’s nothing I can take to limit it. However, I take my charges outside as much as possible, so nobody complains.

Agree it may be a medical condition. Circulate more air when possible.

If you do what PP said about calling people out, just know that's the example your children will be seeing and may start calling others out when they toot, which will lead to embarrassing situations. There is no great solution if it is a medical condition.

Shame an adult for their bodily functions and then "nip it in the bud"? How do you propose that? Insist she not fart?

We have a wonderful Nanny, but she passes gas all the time! I am not sure how to address this issue? I get we are all human, but she doesn't excuse herself, and it smells horrible. WHat to do?
