It’s for an in country au pair but let’s be serious, she’s not going to take Amtrak unless it’s within the NE and then you’d just drive to pick her up.
Just pay extra baggage fees for airplane and tell her no more than 3 bags.
I know several APs who enjoyed cross country trips (on Amtrak). It’s certainly an option I would offer.

Subject: Shipping luggage?
We are getting an in-country au pair for the first time and are responsible to getting her and her stuff here. Travel logistics are easy but does anyone know the best way to transport extra luggage? There are a million services out there....
