Just statistically, there are fewer families that are able (let alone willing) pay higher rates. More people are struggling today, not fewer. So please understand that when you argue for higher rates for nannies, you effectively argue for fewer nanny jobs. That's not to say you deserve more or less, that's not for me to say. It's just how the market works.

Whenever it's discussed what nannies should get paid, they are described as amazing professionals with education in a field of early education, who sincerely care about the children they care for.

However, the nannies who post here oftentimes come across as people who hate their employers, constantly criticize their workplace, and generally fail to act like equal, responsible grown-ups who have agreed to terms of employment, while also being free to re-negotiate any terms, in a constructive manner.

Feel like you are in a position to ask for a raise? Then ask for it and make your case. No reason to rant like a rabid animal.

$50 an hour is absurd. Nannies aren't teaching except young kids and that is their job. Its a replacement parent.

I just signed a contract for $20/hour, 40 hour minimum. Live-in, no limits on what food I can request (I’ll be reasonable, but they were very generous to prior APs, so I doubt there would be a problem). Up to $300/month for health care, $50/month for phone, unlimited use of their vehicle during my time off (put in gas if I use over 1/4 tank).

I will be homeschooling. I’m being well compensated because they are effectively quarantining. Since I’m moderate risk (asthma, decreased lung capacity), it’s a great fit.

Hey everybody out there who thinks nannies are charging to much guess what? We have bills too. Mind blown!

I disagree that just because a Nanny accepts a rate of pay that they are then not taken advantage of.
They likely will work for peanuts since jobs are scarce these days due to our bad economy.

It is not easy walking away from any type of work at this time.
Everyone needs to feed their families and pay their bills.

And a family certainly can take full advantage.

Nanny here. I think it depends. If the nanny is agree what the family is willing to pay and is happy with it; it's ok. Even if that pay is not so high or comes from a wealthy family. It's always the nannie's responsibility and decision to take the job. If not, just move on and look for the best match for you about family and about pay. There are lot of families cheap or wealthy. The decision is in our hands.

There are going to be massive layoffs beginning in August. Now is not the time to be asking for raises.

Agree with previous poster . This is not an opportunity for nannies to price gauge because many daycares are safely reopening as a cheaper option , many parents are at home or laid off themselves and don’t need a nanny . A lot of nannies would be happy to have a job right now .

No nanny families are getting pay raises because it’s “harder” to work at home, as in working in a spare room with the nanny and kids around.

Wages are set by supply and demand. The wage you can command hasn’t gone up, because either the supply of willing nannies has increased (for example, due to families laying off nannies as a result of job losses) or demand has not increased (for example, because daycares are reopening).

As a PP noted, there is also a limit to what people are willing to pay. Nannies decide they want $30/hr., and people decide “nah, I’ll manage.”
