I don’t think a Nanny deserves severance pay if she is fired.

If a Nanny gives notice I also wouldn’t consider severance pay.

Only if a Nanny is laid off.

My contract is written in a specific way to address this.

Nanny and employer agree to X weeks as notice. If employer chooses to have nanny stopping working within that time period, the remainder will be paid out as severance.

Many employers prefer to pay out severance rather than giving notice. Some nannies prefer it as well, but most would rather spend a little extra time with your children.

Severance is generally for abrupt firing but a parting bonus is generally given. You want your nanny to stay on good terms with you and see you’re child to lessen abandonment issues. Even FaceTime sessions with former nanny are helpful but it’s better to have her visit in person.

You give severance when you are firing someone or laying them off. Severance is not relevant when employment is ending with plenty of notice.

A parting gift or bonus at the termination of a long tenure of excellent performance is a really nice thing.

One week per year of employment is a great amount if you can afford it.

Did she give her two weeks notice or are you ending the position? If you're laying her off, generally one week of pay per year worked is appropriate/standard.

Do I give my nanny of two years severance pay? Her last day with us is in three weeks. She has been great and this is our first nanny so I have no idea. If so, how much?!
