Maryland doesn’t recognize nanny shares as such, labeling them in home daycare. DC does. VA is very iffy, no specific links, and it seems to depend on where you live and who you get in the office.

Ugh! If I didn’t feel like Id be letting down my students I’d jump on this. I am a preschool special education teacher.

Be aware that friends from preschool in a class of 8-14 kids may not stay friends with only 3-4 kids. You’re setting up a situation in which one child could be excluded, no matter what the adult in charge chooses to do.

Please be aware that this will be an in-home daycare and should be licensed as such.

It’s a great idea, OP. But, as a warning, I’ve gotten over ten inquiries on care.com for the same type of position (I’m a former teacher). When I tell them I’m not available they all write back asking for suggestions on how to find someone.

So if you find someone - move fast!

Thanks for the suggestion--their preschool is still operating, but is tentatively planning to do A/B days. But I'd hate to try to recruit away their teachers.

You ask the teachers at your former daycare/preschool whether they want work, or if they know anyone looking.

So, we are thinking creatively about the fall and considering forming a "nanny share" with 3 (or maaaybe 4) three and a half to four year olds. We would love to find someone with either preschool or child care experience that can structure the day for the kids and help them in particular with social skills. But I realize that's likely very difficult to find right now. The families would commit to being generally cautious about COVID, and we could pay someone very well.

I don't think that we have crazy unrealistic expectations. We have a great space for them to use with a yard, too. We wouldn't ask them to do any housework-type stuff, but of course they'd need to help the kids get ready for nap, etc. No diapers--all kids are potty trained and know each other from preschool, so they are all used to "school." The priority is someone that could manage 3 preschoolers well--facilitate activities/play, develop routine and structure, and generally create a nurturing and fun day. We're somewhat flexible on hours and don't intend to micromanage. Most of the time, there wouldn't be parents around. My hope is that this could work for someone that might have lost a job at a preschool or for whom going back to teaching preschool in the fall seems too risky.

Does anyone have thoughts on how to find someone like this? I'm at a loss.
