Best bet is to find a family from your child’s class last year who will be on the alternate schedule, but they won’t need Fridays. IF you can find that, both families should be able to pay normal full hourly rate, instead of part time. Yes, the nanny will be exposed to the other family, but at least you’ll know that it’ll limited to just one other family.

If you want a nanny that is only working with your family to limit exposure, definitely $25 an hour for anything less than 30 hours.

If you are comfortable with her having another job, then $20-22 is good. But there’s always that risk of extra exposure from her other job.

Nannies are going to be hard to come by because of part time school.

Just because you hire someone part-time, does not mean that you should pay her extra per hour just because you do not need forty hours!?
Other jobs do not offer part-time employees a higher hourly wage.

Ok. So offer the same hourly rate as a full time gig. What caliber of candidates will apply?

Is your modified schedule one week on and one week off? That’s what ours will be - one week half the class will be in school and then next week the other half and all with Friday’s off.

We just got the new schedule and are looking as well. We’re going to offer a high hourly and do it as a share with another boy from DS’s class.

I don’t know why - but it’s true. Part time nannies are more per hour. Especially now when they’re so in demand.

I’ve been out of the nanny game for sometime now but with school likely to be on a modified schedule I’m thinking about hiring someone part time. What is the going rate for a nanny for an young ES age child? I think basic responsibilities will include playing, feeding, supervising homework, reading, and cleaning up toys with child. The nanny does not need a car, won’t be expected to make meals or supervise online learning. One parent will be WFH and can help out if necessary. We live in NW DC. Thank you.
