We do NOT wish to take this option but CCAP is telling us we have to?? Seems they are trying to avoid purchasing an expensive flight home!

And both cc and APC told me they can...

It’s possible that government is clarifying and you haven’t been notified yet...

Euraupair but I am assuming it's a requirement of the government rather than the agency.

They can only if they rematch now or before June 22nd and extend with them, after that both AP and HFs are stuck with the AP they picked according to the email received today.

What agency are you with?

Yes. They can rematch with another family if they choose.

It's a big decision. Our au pair wants to chat with her family back home about it. We'd love her to stay, but it's another six months in a situation where we can't promise she'll get any more opportunities to travel and the hours watching our kids are definitely longer than what we originally offered her before schools closed.

Just curious, can they extend with a different family as well?

Yep, our Year 2 au pair is extending with us for all the reasons that the OP listed.

Email from CCAP:

We are thrilled to share that the U.S. Department of State has informed our organization that they will be making a policy exception and allowing a one-time, six-month extension for au pairs who are in their 2nd term with an end date through December 31, 2020. This is in recognition of the strong interest among families and au pairs to extend into a third term while also allowing more time on the program if there are any delays in au pairs being able to return home.

My 2nd year au pair has 5 months left and we don’t really need her at this point. I’m hoping that being able to offer 11 months will help her find a really good family.

My au pair and I were both excited about the J1 visa extension news.

The thought of having to look for a new au pair during the pandemic was terrifying (especially with having to quarantine her when she first arrived), so I am excited to get more time (until May, 2021 now with the extension).

Have other families decided to take the 6 month extension?

My au pair is from a country that is hard hit by the pandemic, so it would be hard to get a job in her country right now - so she too is thrilled to stay here, earn the extra money, with a family that she knows and (hopefully) loves.
