Something from the child. If they’re an infant, that’s just a smile. For a toddler, a scribble in a card you get is acceptable.

Then either cash, gift card or a paid day off.

I am a Nanny & I personally would love to receive a gift card from my employers.

I do not see gift cards as thoughtless at all.

I also would like cash, gift certificates + house slippers.

An Apple Watch. As a nanny, this is the BEST gift I have ever received.

I’m a nanny who doesn’t care for gift cards or gift certificates either. For birthdays I prefer something more personal.

I’ve always gotten a gift for my birthday, a gift for Christmas, and cash for end of the year bonus. I really hate gift cards because it just feels so impersonal and lazy. Thought-less in the true sense of the word (as in no thought put into the gift).

Some of my favorite birthday gifts have been a name embossed leather “cosmetic” bag, a gold name necklace, a gorgeous overnight bag, running shoes, and a great small backpack/purse that I use every day. And anything my charges have made for me.

And, I wouldn't want any of that. Most adults don't wear name necklaces except many someone very young. And, its very hard to buy shoes for someone.

I think PP was just giving examples of what she liked. Only OP knows what her nanny likes.

Normally I'd do a restaurant gift card or something fun along those lines... but there's so little to do these days. Any ideas for our 50+ yo nanny's upcoming birthday?
