I'm the nanny from MD above and I'm starting to think about the ethical ramifications. My employer is a higher level exec for a corporation that would be considered an essential service. But not like a doctor or first responder type of thing. And I'd like to be able to continue to work and earn a paycheck. They could in essence survive without me but it would be a huge PITA for them. Not sure what to do here and at this point there is no SIP order here. Also they and I have shopped for groceries. I don't know what the right thing to is to do here.

I thought in CA nannies could only work if their bosses were essential? We just got a stay at home order in WA, and we're trying to figure this out.

I’m a nanny in Illinois, I’m still working.

I’m in Michigan, with a stay-at-home order in effect. We’ve gone from 0 to over 1,300 cases in the state in under two weeks. However, the governor’s order specifically creates an exemption for anyone caring for children, elderly or infirm individuals. However, even though nannies and babysitters can work, the question remains: How many are still doing so?

I was just about to ask something similar. I’m a teacher in Georgia and currently have been going to my former charges and nannying for them while their parents work a few hours from home and occasionally they take turns going to their office.

We have not had an official SIP order yet in Atlanta but if so will I need to cancel them? I currently use ride share and am wondering what that will also mean for those services. Since I’m a teacher I’m still getting paid so my side gig isn’t essential but just good to know the rules of this thing...

I am a nanny in Virginia and am wondering if nannies are considered “essential” if they work for employers who are NOT considered essential?

For example, if VA orders a shelter-in-place and I worked for two doctors, I’d likely still be required to work. But what if I work for two lawyers?

Would love to know how other VA families/nannies are handling this possibility or if anyone knows the actual “rule.”
